Hi all, my ID said my carpentry work is made of "Solid plywood". I heard of solid wood, I heard of plywood, I've never heard of "solid plywood". The picture shows what I'm given. Can anyone tell me if this is indeed "solid plywood"? It's a type of plywood for sure since its multiple pieces glued together. but it doesn't look "solid" to me. Thanks in advance.

regards,

Zen

Hi Zen, I think by solid plywood they meant that the core of the ply within contains a solid piece. Could it be the thick piece which you see at the right end of it?

Solid ply is quite common in certain above mid end furniture. Muji seems to use it quite often back in the days, when they make a lot of "solid wood" furniture.

They are generally used when the consumer desires the weight, strength and durability of solid wood, yet with the beautiful finishing of certain grains that does comes with solid wood, as real solid wood have blemishes and knots. So they use a nice wood veneer, or high quality laminate and wrap it over the solid wood inner.

However from your photo is it multiple pieces of wood? Or is it just one piece?

Plywood is like a sandwich of thin wood layers glued together, making it stronger and more stable than regular wood.

Solid plywood is a strong, durable material made by gluing together thin layers of wood, called veneers, in alternating grain directions. This unique structure gives it excellent strength, stability, and resistance to warping compared to solid wood.

It is commonly used in furniture, flooring, and construction due to its versatility and ability to hold screws and nails securely. Solid plywood combines the natural beauty of wood with practical benefits, making it a popular choice for various applications.

So... no one knows the meaning of "solid plywood" ya? Google say plywood should not have any particle board in it. But from the pic, seems like there's some pieces of particle boards mixed into it. I feel like I've been scammed and I'm trying to garner some opinions from public and experts here. obviously I can't go ask the ID company about it.

Feels like whatever this "Solid Plywood" is, it is just another marketing term by renovation companies to try to sell a commodity as a "premium" product to the consume.

Most "normal" plywood are more than good for 99% of use case. I would feel it is more important to ensure they are within safe VOC and formaldehyde levels than their durability.

Plywood is an engineered wood product made by gluing thin layers of wood veneer (called "plies") together, with the grain of adjacent layers typically arranged at right angles to each other for increased strength and stability.

can some expert look at my picture and see if it is indeed done in such a way? Looks to me like some pieces are particle boards which to my understanding is not as durable.
