When done with my unit’s reno a couple of years ago I gotta say I got quite a pleasant experience with my contractor introduced by my uncle. I think they are not in the industry anymore currently as he migrated overseas for other ventures (sg too stressful)
I can share some of the good qualities of a good reno contractor. From my memory from the start, their team laid out a clear timeline and budget which they stuck to like glue. It was very important to us as we’ve already chosen a move-in date.
Their attention to detail was something else. We had a custom kitchen backsplash idea, and they executed it flawlessly, matching the colors and design exactly as we imagined.
They were also pretty knowledgeable about HDB regulations. The PM Mr Tan ensured all our renovations were compliant. Like when we had designed to change the existing windows in the living room from sliding to casement kind, they advised against it and shared with us the requirements.
Also, our flat had an awkwardly shaped living room, and they suggested a revised layout that maximized space while achieving the similar look that we wanted. They even managed to incorporate a small workspace for me, which I hadn’t thought was possible given the space constraints.
Throughout the reno period, we’ve got weekly updates with photos and Mr Tan was always available to chat if we had questions or wanted changes.
If you’re engaging a reno contractor, make sure to get one with similar qualities.
